Blackbox Studio's 'Blackstone' Series: A Tribute to Manna and a Leap in VFX Storytelling

In a groundbreaking move, Blackbox Studio has unveiled the trailer for their VFX-inspired series “Blackstone,” which pays homage to the late Dhallywood icon, Manna. The series, which premiered its first episode’s trailer on Facebook, has already garnered significant attention, with 334 shares and widespread acclaim for its high-quality visual effects that rival international productions.

Directed by Shariar Gaalib and produced by Rabiul Karim, “Blackstone” represents a fusion of traditional filmmaking and advanced visual effects, creating a seamless cinematic experience. The series aims to honor Manna’s legacy by incorporating elements that reflect the actor’s impact on the Dhallywood film industry.
Shariar Gaalib, the visionary behind the series, expressed his ambition to craft a narrative that resonates with the local audience while drawing inspiration from the works of esteemed directors such as James Cameron and Denis Villeneuve. The production spanned approximately 1.5 years, a testament to the team’s commitment to quality and storytelling.
The series is not just a showcase of VFX prowess but also a collaborative effort involving extensive shooting with actors across diverse locations. The director praised the dedication of actors Rafi and Badhon, who braved various weather conditions to capture the perfect shots, particularly during the ‘golden hour’ for enhanced visual appeal.
Discussing the technological aspects, Gaalib shared his inspiration from Hollywood’s trend of using VFX to bring legendary actors back to the screen. Despite budgetary and resource limitations, the team has updated the technology to ensure a timely release on YouTube, with the first episode set to premiere on April 1.
One of the significant challenges faced by the studio is the lack of sponsorship, attributed to the absence of well-known actors in their short films. However, Rabiul Karim, co-founder of Blackbox Studio, has been instrumental in funding the project. The studio’s commitment to retaining creative control and offering content free of charge on their channel has led them to forego selling their projects to popular OTT platforms.
Addressing concerns about the English dubbing in the trailer, the director clarified that the series is primarily in Bangla, with English used only for background speech to enhance accessibility for a broader audience.
As anticipation builds for the two-part series, Blackbox Studio continues to push the boundaries of storytelling with projects like “The Village,” further establishing their mark in the realm of science fiction and VFX-driven narratives.
