The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a health scare on Sunday against the Houston Texans. But the 25-year-old did give a consoling update later that night that eased the mind of his fans.
“Thank you to everyone that’s reached out / been praying for me. I’m home and feeling better. “Thank you guys very much thanks for all the support,” Lawrence posted on the social network X.
He writes it after a rough episode that sent him off the court during the second half. Lawrence was concussed after a 6 yard scramble with a hard hit by Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. Though slipping to stay off of the ball, Al-Shaair dived towards Lawrence’s upper body, and the quarterback’s head fell to the ground. The fact that the Jaguars’ staff rushed for medical assistance and then sent Lawrence to be carted off the field showed the severity of the case.
Jaguars Struggle Without Lawrence
On a Lawrence absence, the backup quarterback Mac Jones tried his hand, and didn’t really do much to help the team. Jaguars ended up losing to Texans going 2-10, the worst record in the NFL.
The team’s playoff dreams have been taken away, but Lawrence’s wellbeing still tops the list. The hordes of followers and pundits are wondering if the big quarterback is cleared to play in Sunday’s matchup with the Tennessee Titans on December 8. Otherwise Jones should start, which puts extra pressure on the Jaguars to show up.
A Clash of Clans: Was It a Puck Trick?
Fans and pundits alike have expressed disagreement about the Trevor Lawrence smash. Many thought Azeez Al-Shaair’s hit was a poor, unnecessarily harsh penalty and even called it a “dirty hit.” Gene Frenette, a well-known sports columnist, said the tackle underscored how much the NFL continues to have problems with safety.
Sliding is a move that safeguards quarterbacks from just this kind of damage. But such incidents as Lawrence’s concussion ask if the existing regulations and punishments are enough to keep defenders from tackling weaker players.
Optimism for Lawrence’s Recovery
If Jaguars fans were stung by the loss to the Texans, Lawrence’s health news is good news. Recovery from a concussion can take place differently for each player, but the QB’s update is good news for his future.
Lawrence could be on the reshelf soon and the Jaguars might find some form again as they host their divisional rivals, the Tennessee Titans. But, if he misses too long, the club will have to change its plan if it wants to cap the season strong.
The Bigger Picture
The Jaguars’ struggles this season have been a signal of much more than Trevor Lawrence’s injury. It’s been a patchwork offense, and a bad defense. The Jacksonville Chargers have just a few games left and they are struggling to be respectable.
And whether the team does or not, Lawrence’s recovery will be watched. Being the face of the franchise and a former No. He’s the number 1 overall draft pick, and his production is the future of the Jaguars.
Looking Ahead
Right now, Trevor Lawrence’s status is unknown heading into Week 14, but his thanks and optimism has admonished fans. The Jaguars will still be tracking his status and make a decision based on medical advice.
But for now, Jaguars fans have at least their ace QB is “home and well.” Even if he doesn’t play on Sunday, if he’s healthy, his recovery is the biggest win of the week.
